Abstract

University teaching, as an academic practice and profession, is framed by significant socio-historical and political changes. These changes impact the structure and dynamics of academic functions and positions within professional development. University teaching is a complex, heterogeneous, and specific practice experienced and perceived differently by educators, depending on their particular positions within the university field. Within diverse material and symbolic conditions, university teaching places professors in a network of multiple relationships. 

Therefore, this essay aims to reflect on and revalue the teaching profession in the university context, characterizing the tensions, obstacles, and historical conditions that shape it.
