Abstract

Currently, numerous companies and entrepreneurs worldwide offer medical prostheses created through 3D printing. In our country and region, the primary issue with these solutions is the high acquisition cost, often amounting to tens of thousands of dollars. 

The advancement of 3D printing technology has enabled the design and construction of various movable parts and prostheses. The evolution of 3D printing materials now allows for products with different levels of mechanical strength and flexibility—essential characteristics for limb prostheses. The widespread adoption of 3D printing has significantly reduced the costs of both printers and printing materials. 

Given the need for functional prostheses to improve the quality of life for many individuals, we decided to develop a low-cost robotic hand prosthesis prototype. This involved using affordable and accessible 3D printing materials and leveraging the equipment and tools available in the university's laboratories. 

The project was the final assignment for the Robotics II course in the University Technical Program in Automation and Robotics at DASS/UCSE. This initial prototype will serve as a foundation for more advanced models. Future innovations will aim to replace 3D printing materials with recycled plastics, further reducing manufacturing costs.
